Welcome back…

Well, the first two days back were pretty much as expected. About 1/2 of each day was spent sitting through a variety of pointless meetings and the rest of the time was left for preparing the classrooms.

The biggest struggle with the classroom prep was getting our libraries put together. We had a fairly pathetic book collection last year, so over the summer the Almighty Administration purchased more than $15,000 worth of YA literature. Holy cow. There was a pile of boxes that pretty much filled an entire classroom and we had the wonderful task of sorting, leveling, and distributing those books in 2 days. 6 of us spent 10 hours there on Thursday and 12 yesterday. I did get a fantastic workout though since I spent much of the day lugging boxes to the different classrooms. I am really sore today. It’s not done, but it’s close and the kids will see lots and lots of shiny new books when they walk in each room :)

As for the schedules, they did get re-worked a bit so I now only have one day where I see each class for more than 2 hours in a day. Most people seem a little more content with what they have, but there are still some really odd schedules that may need to be dealt with.

I also got my class rosters. There are at least 5 kids in each class whose names I cannot even begin to figure out how to pronounce…I really don’t know what some parents are thinking when they are choosing names…should be an interesting first day on Tuesday.
